Park & Facility Improvement Projects

The Lemont Park District continues to grow our footprint to bring parks, open space and facilities to the community of Lemont. We currently have over 130 acres of green space, 24 parks and we’re growing!

Athens Park

In 2021, the Lemont Park District applied for a Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant to assist in offsetting the costs associated with developing the new Athens Park Downtown Lemont project. And on July 8, 2022, it was announced that the Lemont Park District was selected as a $400,000 grant recipient!

Located at the north end of Stephen Street, this park will be a beautiful addition to our vibrant downtown area. The playground, pavilions, outdoor entertainment space and additional features are taking shape. In the coming months, the Park District’s contractors, E.P. Doyle, will continue to build out the parcel with a dog park, walking and biking paths, enhanced landscaping, a pollinator garden, history plaza, parking lot and other amenities.

The Village of Lemont has begun their project to improve the Stephen Street entrance and access to this new community outdoor recreation space. Over the next couple months, additional improvements will continue, which include: repairing and replacing the limestone under the overpass, striping, new pavement, pedestrian and bikeway markings and further aesthetic enhancements. The project is being coordinated with a variety of agencies and is expected to be complete when the park is officially open in 2025.
