Park & Facility Improvement Projects

The Lemont Park District continues to grow our footprint to bring parks, open space and facilities to the community of Lemont. We currently have over 130 acres of green space, 24 parks and we’re growing!

Athens Park

In 2021, the Lemont Park District applied for a Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant to assist in offsetting the costs associated with developing the new Athens Park Downtown Lemont project. And on July 8, 2022, it was announced that the Lemont Park District was selected as a $400,000 grant recipient!

In December 2023, the district selected a developer for this project. The park is currently under construction as of Spring 2024; with a grand opening sometime in early 2025. This phase will feature a playground, dog park, an outdoor entertainment space, large parking lot, walking and biking path, pavilions, naturalized wetlands, pollinator garden, device charging stations and a history plaza.

Gleneagles Park

Gleneagles Park is underway. The park construction is being managed by the home developer and is expected to be turned over to the Park District for public use sometime in 2024. Gleneagles Park will be home to a state-of-the-art play structure, walking path, full basketball court, two pickleball courts, and a pavilion! We will have some unique features that will pay history to the former Gleneagles golf course; including a synthetic putting green. Stay tuned for more updates.
